Here at "The DeQuincy Stanberry Malone Foundation", we want to increase the awareness of Autism, by helping you to: Understand Autism: Autism-is known as a complex developmental disability. Experts believe that AUTISM presents itself during the first three years of a person's life. The condition is the result of a neurological disorder that has an effect on normal brain function, affecting development of the person's communication and social interaction skills. Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD)-and Autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. THE CAUSE: There is no one cause for Autism just as there is no one type of Autism. Most cases of Autism, appear to be caused by a combination of Autism risk genes and evironmental factors influencing early brain development. Dr.Leo Kanner (1894-1981), who was born in Klekotow, Austria, is one of the first persons to study Autism. He was a psychiatrist and a physician who published a paper in 1943, "Autistic Disturbances of Affective Contact", discribing his work with children who would now be labeled as having Autism. Dr. Hans Asperger (1906-1980), another pediatrician born in Austria, also studied children who, from his discriptions of them, had high-functioning Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. His first paper on this was published in 1944. RISK FACTORS: The risk factors of Autism involves events before and during birth. They include advanced parental age at time of conception "both mother and father", maternal illness during pregnancy and certain difficulties during birth, particularly those involving periods of oxygen deprivation to the baby's brain. Also along with these factors, genetic risk factors appear to modestly increase risk. STUDIES: Studies show that Autism is four to five times more common among boys than girls. Check back next week, for our weekly updates on Autism, as we continue to pray and ask Jesus to bless our Doctor's and Scientist with a cure. Sincerely, Equallia Malone President/TDSMF

Autisim is an illness that should not be hidden or seen as a dissability. It is quite common, and rather than shunning andrediculing these patients, they should be taken to facilities like Dequincy Stanberry to help fight this disease
